How is Electricity Made?

Technology

One of the questions that many people ask when they want to cut their energy and utility bills is, how is electricity generated? There are two main ways to power our homes and these are through burning of fossil fuels like coal or gas, and the electrical energy created by nuclear fission. Most of the electricity we use every day comes from the burning of fossil fuels. Coal mining and gas drilling waste a lot of natural resources and this is one of the reasons that global warming alarmists have raised the alarm. The burning of fossil fuels for energy results in the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which trap heat in the atmosphere and cause extreme weather conditions.

There are two types of electricity production: active and passive. In an active process for electricity production, energy is transformed from a supply such as coal or gas, into a usable chemical energy such as gasoline, and then into electrical energy by passing through wires with a conducting component. The passive process of electricity production is usually achieved by passing electricity through materials such as concrete, which is able to absorb large amounts of heat. By using renewable energy such as the sun and wind, or even geothermal or tidal energy sources we can eliminate the need for using fossil fuels. Just imagine if we did not need to use any fossil fuels at all! It seems possible that our energy crisis will soon be a thing of the past, because it is only a question of time before we develop more efficient ways of producing energy.
