What to think about when buying a work vehicle

Business

Purchasing a work vehicle is never an easy decision, especially as it will often require a substantial payment. If you are in the position where you need to look for a vehicle that can be used for work then here are a few things that you might want to think about.

Type – the kind of vehicle that you go for will very much depend on the work that you do. For example a regional sales person might be happy with a car whereas an electrician will need to think about working from a van. The type of vehicle you get will also depend very much on the budget that you have available to you.

Extras – think about whether you need any additional extras to go along with your vehicle such as signage to be placed on your car or Chapter 8 Chevrons on the back of your van to make it more visible to other road users and pedestrians.

Insurance – you will need specific work vehicle insurance and will also need to consider whether you want some kind of management system that will help you to identify where your employees are at any given time and where the vehicles are being kept and used.

Fuel cards – if you or your employees are going to be driving a lot as a part of their work you might want to consider registering for a fuel car scheme so that your drivers do not have to spend their own money and then claim it back as an expense. There are a number of different schemes that you can find online.
