The National Fisheries Board – Hyderabad, India

It is quite surprising that a government agency would sponsor such a literal interpretation of mimetic architecture. The four-story structure was opened officially in 2012. The architects took inspiration from Frank Gehry’s large “Fish” sculpture, completed in Barcelona for the Barcelona Olympics.

Huainan Violin and Piano – China

The project was created by students at the University of Technology in Hefei. The purpose is to showcase development plans and was finished in 2007. The vertical circulation is represented by the violin structure, while the main building is the piano. This building is a favourite tourist destination and claimed as “the most romantic in China” for couples. It makes a great photo opportunity for music lovers.

Kunsthaus Graz – Austria

It’s hard to miss this structure created by Peter Cook & Colin Fournier! It looks a little slug-like but the architects call it “the friendly alien.” This amorphous structure was constructed for the European Capital of Culture programme in 2003. Now, the Kunsthaus is a popular attraction for international tourists. City Library, Kansas City USA

The façade features 22 books in various genres, a whopping 25 feet by nine feet. Constructed in 2004, the library and the Community Bookshelf hides the parking garage for the library. The community worked together to create a unique design for the parking structure. The Kansas City Public Library Board of Trustees selected the best book titles submitted by the public.
