One of the best examples of how marketing works is fast food. Fast food chains have become hugely popular over the past few decades – some may be old enough to remember the images of the queues outside the first McDonalds that opened up in Moscow after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The popularity of fast food means that there are many companies vying for the attention of the consumer, and many successful companies out there. Marketing has been a huge part of these companies’ success stories.

 

One of the things that has seen a lot of fast-food companies reach worldwide success is recognition. Brand consistency and recognition is important – for example, you can go anywhere in the world and when you see the McDonalds famous golden arches, or the face of Colonel Sanders you know what you are going to get – this is why they are so successful.

Another thing to look at with fast food chains is their use of colour – most of them use the colour red in their logo. The reason for this is that it subconsciously invokes feelings of speed and urgency – meaning if you are hungry, your food will be with you fast!
