How are SIM cards made

Technology

Mobile phones have become a staple technology in our society and it is often a technology that many of us take for granted. Within our mobile phones there are many different elements and one of the most important ones is the SIM card. This can be a SIM that is locked to a particular mobile phone provider or it can be a Multi Network Sim like the ones that are available from www.lister-communications.co.uk/business-mobiles/multi-network-data-sim-cards.

SIM cards or Subscriber Identity Module cards store data that is used to identify and authenticate users. They are made from a base material such as plastic, PET or PVC. These sheets of plastic are then cut into the shape of the SIM card. You will often find that the SIM cards are created to allow you to push out the section at the right size that is needed for your device.

Many SIM cards are branded with the logos of the mobile phone network that they are linked to or in the case of unlocked SIMs they often have the manufacturer’s details on them. The branding is often embossed, engraved or printed onto the cards.

Once the branding has been completed the IC Chip can be embedded into the SIM. This chip holds all of the identifying information of the subscriber and it is attached to the plastic base material through a number of different bonding techniques such as welding or industrial glues.
